Glorious Hexagons

Have you seen tUnknownhe fabulous new quilts made by Liza Lucy and Kim McLean? We saw these two fabulous quilts at Quilt Market in October and fell in love!

We are so excited to be hosting a stitch-along focusing on making versions of these two great quilts, in 2016.

Next year’s handwork BOM at Intown Quilters will be one of our favorite quilts from Fall Quilt Market: Glorious Hexagons! Liza Prior Lucy and Kim McLean used Katja Marek’s The New Hexagon (the basis of our 2015 Hexy BOM), along with some blocks of their own design with the stunning fabrics from the Kaffe Fassett Collective.

Booklet

We love the idea of hand-work to keep us busy while waiting at appointments, sitting on the sidelines at kids’ practices, watching TV with our families and even riding in the car on a road trip. Sometimes it is nice just to get back to working slowly and relishing in the fabric and the process, rather than rushing through a quilt to get it done.

Our Glorious Hexagons Club kicks off the first Saturday in February 2016. Join Mary Lou Mojonnier at Intown Quilters for a monthly stitch-along to create your version of these quilts using The New Hexagon and a booklet from Liza and Kim. Your Glorious Hexagons Club membership includes the supplemental booklet by Liza and Kim, monthly meeting time with Mary Lou and a 3″ acrylic hexagon template, as well as EPP papers each month, cut specifically for these stunning quilts from Paper Pieces.

We’ve set up a monthly subscription through PayPal (PayPal account required); just click here to sign up. IQ’s Glorious Hexagon’s Club is $25.50 for the first month and $18.50/month for the remaining 11 months. If you prefer to not use the paypal monthly subscription system, you can pay for the full year all at once in the shop or on the phone.

I can’t wait to get started making mine!

Hand-made Holiday Gifts

Have you been working on hand-made gifts for the holidays? Feeling stressed trying to figure out some simple ones to make? We try to figure out some really quick gifts to make every year and this year we decided to have some quick classes to teach some of out quick-gift ideas.

We, at the shop, have all been obsessed with making infinity scarves out of our favorite fabric and now is the perfect time to make them for others. How about a pretty floral one? Or maybe a plaid one or holiday fabric scarf to wear for fun during the holidays? These great scarves take about 20 minutes once you’ve got the process down so knowing how to make them is helpful all year round for whipping up a quick gift.

A table runner is also a fun gift to give many people in many different fabrics, in holiday fabric or just in a favorite color of the recipient.

If you like to give wine as a gift, the bottle bags are a great way to make the wine bottle pretty. You can also easily make these bags different heights to be a gift bag for all kinds of things. Using fabric bags can also make you feel better about your impact on the environment since they are re-usable and not using up more paper.

If you have friends who like to sew, the pin cushion is a fun gift to make and give. They are such a cute pin cushion and have a nice weight to them so they stay put where you set them. Sandy even provides you with a kit for most of the supplies needed for this pin cushion (since we don’t sell some of them) for a small fee.

A zipper bag and some pocket hand-warmers would also make great gifts and stocking stuffers.

We’ve thought of some fun quick gifts you can make and have put together some classes where you can get started for just $10. Click here to check them out.

Lizzy House comes to IQ!

After months of planning, it is finally coming together! Intown Quilters is excited to host Lizzy House for two workshops on March 19 & 20, 2016.
Intown Quilters is hosting two Meadow Quilt workshops with Lizzy House, one on Saturday, March 19, and one on Sunday, March 20. Lizzy was inspired to create the Meadow Quilt and decided against releasing it as a pattern; instead, she’s teaching it only as a class. Students around the world have traveled to take part in this hands-on bit of maker zen with Lizzy and we know you’ll find it just as moving and inspiring.

Each workshop focuses on creating the Meadow block, which students then can use to make a full Meadow Quilt on their own. Workshops are $200 and take place from 10:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. in the classroom at IQ. Classes include lunch and are each limited to 14 participants. As always, we are offering workshop participants a discount on the supplies used in these classes! We will email you a supply list once we receive one from Lizzy but do not expect the list until after the first of the year.

Sign up here for the Saturday Meadow class and here for the Sunday Meadow class!

Because of the commitments related to scheduling a teacher of this caliber, we have made a change to our usual class cancellation policy: Any cancellations for the Lizzy House workshops must be done by the end of the day on Jan. 21, 2016, in order to receive a full refund. After Jan. 21, we will only issue a store credit (less a $5 cancellation fee). Please take a moment to check your calendar to ensure you will be able to attend the workshop for which you are registered.

Happy sewing!
